 Diego Proaño Falconí

Dr. Diego Proaño Falconí is a dentist and a PhD student from the dental public health specialty program at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. He earned his dental degree from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Peru and a Master of Science degree in dental public health from King’s College London in England. From 2018 to 2021, he served as a professor of dental public health in Peru for the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas. He is keen on understanding and mitigating the financial consequences placed on households who pay out-of-pocket for dental care. His Master of Science dissertation evaluated the association between out-of-pocket payments for dental care and catastrophic health expenditure among Peruvian households. His PhD will explore financial hardship among Canadians paying out-of-pocket for dental care and if financial protection is conferred by covering the cost of basic dental treatments.
